To celebrate the holiday season coming up, the Macoskey Center hosted their annual Holiday Bath and Body Workshop series this month. This series is to give people an opportunity to learn how to make their own personal care products while having an educational experience.
This is the Macoskey Center’s third time hosting this workshop. The center holds various workshops and activities throughout the year to provide an enjoyable and educational experience for participants.
This event gives people of any age the opportunity to learn how to make personal care products that are eco friendly.
“The purpose of the event is sort of a dual purpose like many of our programs here at the Macoskey Center. It’s intended both to educate and just for people to have fun, you know, they will get to come they will get to get their hands dirty, get to make their own products and take them home with them,” Danica Buchanan-Wollaston, a Sustainability Education Graduate Assistant, said.
Each workshop in the series teaches people how to make a different personal care product.
There are four different events in this workshop series.
The Macoskey Center hosted two workshops on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9, teaching participants how to make their products Thieves’ Oil & Healing Salve, Lip Balm and Body Lotion.
On Nov. 14 there was a workshop that focused on and Bath/Beard Oil and Soaking Salts. The workshop hosted on Nov. 15th taught participants how to create lip scrub and face wash.
Hosting these workshops also helps participants learn more about sustainability and the ingredients in the products they are using.
“We do want to foster that sense of fun, partly because there’s a really effective tool in communicating about sustainability and people are much more likely to engage in environmentally conscious behavior if you have positive associations with environmental and sustainability related things.” Buchanan-Wollaston said.
If people were unable to attend the Holiday Bath and Body Workshops, there will be opportunity to purchase the homemade products. The body care items can be purchased at the Smith Student Center lobby on Nov. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
