Starting Feb. 1 through March 1, The Student Nonprofit Alliance (SNA) will be hosting a Women’s and Girls’ Drive where they are asking for donations from Slippery Rock students and the community.

Stated on CORE, many women are forced to decide whether to buy food for their families or feminine products. The care packages provided by SRU and the community will be given to women and girls, so they do not have to decide.

SNA partnered with YWCA (Young Women’s Christian Association) in Butler. YWCA used to be fully aligned with Christianity, but has since opened up their organization to fight social justice no matter someone’s religion. YWCA Butler will take the care packages and deliver them to women and girls in needThe care packages will consist of the any items donated, along with a small stuffed animal and put into a green drawstring bag that says, “We Believe in YOU!”

On CORE, students can find wish list links to Target and Amazon. The items include a range of wellness and feminine products.

Barbara Rugh, public relations and marketing officer for SNA, spoke on the details of the donations.

The wish lists are there so people can see what products we’re wanting and need, so they can just order online and then have it shipped straight to our office at SRU. Which is really nice because it all comes to one place,” said Rugh.

On the SNA CORE page, students can access a link for the foundation to donate money. This allows for SNA to do the shopping for students.

We can do the shopping for you. If you don’t feel comfortable doing the wish list or going out in public. We just kind of want to make it a lot easier for you with COVID going on,” said Rugh.

SNA also is providing contactless drop off locations for donations. Students can drop off donations in the lobby of Spotts and room 205 of Spotts.

In the future, SNA plans to hold drives for senior citizens and foster kids. Students looking to join SNA can check the Student Nonprofit Alliance core page which provides the time and Zoom link to the monthly meetings.
