Students and faculty gathered Thursday in the Quad during common hour for Loco 4 Hoco, hosted by Student Engagement and Leadership.
Those in attendance could get their caricature drawn, an opportunity to dunk Homecoming Royalty and Dr. Wilmes at the dunk tank, try their luck on a wipeout inflatable, visit tables with free gifts and listen to live music from the band All the Rest.
Morgan Meyer, junior exercise science major and chair of the Homecoming Committee, said that Loco 4 Hoco is a kick off to the homecoming weekend where students can get more information about what’s happening during homecoming.
Meyer said that she wanted the event this year to be more interactive than previous years.
“The band is different than WSRU sound,” Meyer said. “They came all the way from Georgia and they sound awesome.”
Meyer said that the dunk tank gave students the opportunity to put a face to the name of Homecoming Royalty candidates. She reached out to President Behre and Dr. John Rindy for the dunk tank, but both were unavailable at the time.
“I love the fanny packs and dunk tank,” Meyer said. “I don’t think other people have brought one before.”
Along with the band and dunk tank, the Macoskey Center and Pride Center reached out to Meyers to be a part in the event. The Macoskey Center provided the chicken photo booth at their farm stand and the Pride Center provided information on the Stride for Pride, the Pride Center along with multicolor heart stickers and “WALK the Rock” wristbands.
“I think [these centers] where a good addition to the event,” Meyer said. “I’m glad they reached out.”
Marissa Roberts, a senior parks and resource management major, was at the event with the Macoskey Center. She said the center is in the quad every Thursday with their farm stand.
In addition to the farm stand produce and home made self care products, students got the opportunity to take a picture with one of the Macoskey Center chickens.
Whether students wanted to check out the farm stand, on the hunt for free novelties, listening to live music or getting a caricature, the activities at the event incorporated the homecoming circus theme.
Lauren Mock, a senior finance major and member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, enjoyed listening to the live music and hanging out with friends while walking through the event in the Quad. Mock said that her and her sorority were walking in the parade on Saturday.
“[It’s] SRU pride,” Mock said. “Pride means having support for you school, having school spirit and being there for the community.”
