The stars came together to celebrate the year’s best music at the 56th annual Grammy Awards where newcomers ruled the show and veteran artists came together for heart-stopping performances.  Before Beyoncé and Jay-Z took the stage and Pink soared through the air for an awestruck audience, stars floated down the red carpet in sparkling couture gowns and unique cocktail dresses.  Among the night’s hits were Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. The misses included Kacey Musgraves and Ariana Grande.

Katy Perry turned heads the moment she stepped foot on the Grammy Awards red carpet in her Valentino gown.  Perry dazzled in her ethereal tulle gown adorned with musical notes on the skirt, which was pulled straight from the spring couture show.

Although high-fashion, this dress was just quirky enough for the star known to favor out of the ordinary styles.  The off-white gown featured a sweetheart illusion neckline and a short tulle skirt overlaid with eye-catching musical note print tulle that went into a long train and trailed behind her as she posed for photographs.  Although her hair was tightly pulled back, her jewelry and makeup were kept simple, which balanced out her look.

Another star that kept her look soft was Kacey Musgraves, but unlike Perry, she wasn’t able to execute her look with the same finesse.  She arrived in Armani Privé to accept her first two Grammy Awards, including one for Best Country Album.

Her blush pink gown featured ruffled tiers down its entire length and was accented by a sprinkling of silver sparkles.  She accessorized her look with silver sandals, diamond studs, and bangles.

While it was wise to keep her jewelry simple, when paired with her pale gown, her look was entirely too underwhelming for a Grammy red carpet.  If her dress was a slightly deeper pink, it would’ve stood out against her skin tone and made for a more dramatic look.

New kid on the block, Ariana Grande, came to Sunday night’s event dressed in a black flowered Dolce and Gabbana tea-length frock that evoked feelings of déjà vu.  Grande is well-known for wearing ladylike ensembles on the red carpet that exude sweetness, but unfortunately her signature look has become much too overdone.

Her black dress featured a pink flower print, and she wore satin heels in the same hue to match, with simple jewelry including pearl drop earrings.  Grande’s hair was styled in a half-up do, as is the norm for every event that she attends, something that she has attributed to severe hair damage.  If she continues to stick with her current style, she should change up one element of her look to make her ensemble fresh, not boring.

Always a style star, Taylor Swift had photographers mesmerized by her chainmail Gucci Première gown.  Her model figure helped her carry the unique dress with ease as she glided down the red carpet.

Her glittering gown looked simple from the front with its crystal lined neckline and short sleeves, but the back boasted a keyhole opening and knee-high slit, which made the dress stand out.  She completed her look with a pair of square-drop earrings and two statement rings by Lorraine Schwartz and sky-high nude and gold Jimmy Choo platform sandals.  She swept her hair back into a simple ponytail and kept her beauty look chic with metallic eye shadow.

Once all of the Grammy Awards were handed out, and the flashbulbs were extinguished, the music industry’s most talented stars walked away with well-deserved awards for their incredible achievements.  The looks seen on the red carpet turned heads for better and for worse much like the performances at the event.

Without a doubt, Ariana Grande was the worst dressed star of the night.  The styling of her look was wrong and ultimately repetitive, which made it boring when compared with other styles seen on the red carpet.

Dressed in Valentino couture, Katy Perry walks away with the title of best dressed.  Simply stated, her gown looked like it was made for her because it allowed her personality to shine through, all in a high-fashion package.
