Fashion Week is once again in full swing with designer collections currently being shown in Milan to much fanfare from celebrities and industry insiders.
With the third week of presentations underway, the world has been given the opportunity to see what fall and winter 2013 will bring to retailers worldwide. Topshop Unique and Oscar de la Renta experimented with a wide range of colors, while Jason Wu showcased a dark color palette highlighted with pops of color.
Topshop Unique showcased 37 different looks during the runway presentation of their fall line in hues ranging from ballerina pink to jet black. Their line featured a great mix of structured jackets, circle skirts, and trousers with both masculine and feminine touches.
They kicked off their presentation with an edgy navy and black ensemble that featured a leather knee-length circle skirt, cropped navy blue sweater and jacket, and ankle boots that boasted an innovative red and black acid wash print. This look truly exemplified the post-grunge era theme that Topshop Unique built their collection on.
As the models strutted down the catwalk to a cover of Blur’s “Girls and Boys,” the looks went from dark to light when the models stepped out in ballerina pink sequined skirts and powder blue fur lined dresses.
The piece that people will undoubtedly be talking about until fall is the backless copper colored jumpsuit that closed their presentation. It exemplified glamour in an effortless fashion, and is a look that women will be wearing in place of dresses this fall.
Jason Wu’s presentation was dark yet glam, and featured bright red and yellow pops of color. Every piece featured in Wu’s collection was exquisitely tailored, from the motorcycle jackets to the cocktail dresses that A-list actresses will be clamoring to wear to movie premieres and award shows later this year. Each successive ensemble in the collection complemented the last in every way.
Wu was truly innovative when it came to putting a spin on the classic trench coat. Fur was added to the pockets of his demure black ensembles to add a bit of flair, patterns were mixed to create another style, while the most intriguing trench coat of his collection was constructed out of clear plastic and was bonded with black lace to create one of the best coats ever to be seen during Fashion Week.
There is no doubt that fans of the designer will be dreaming about his trench coats for months to come, as they are undoubtedly works of art.
Oscar de la Renta launched his most talked about collection in years with John Galliano that brought the designer back into the spotlight after his much publicized fallout with Dior two years ago. Praise for the designers’ collection was endless from industry insiders and even fellow designers including Diane von Furstenberg who was quoted as saying, “It was, a beautiful conversation.”
The collection was romantic in theme and featured a luxurious mix of materials from alligator pelts and wool to silk and leather. The standout pieces of the collection were the gowns that stylists are no doubt already trying to reserve for next year’s award show circuit. Nearly every color in the rainbow was showcased on the de la Renta runway with two standout ensembles being the cap sleeved amethyst colored gown with billowing fabric detailing at the waist and the sleeveless neon pink gown with gold and silver vine-like embroidery. If this collection is an indication of what future collaborations between the all-star designers may mean for the future, the fashion world is in for a beautiful ride.
Fall 2013 is going to be the brightest, most creative season for fashion to date. Retailers will definitely be looking to imitate these luxurious collections for less during the upcoming season.
