I am Cody Nespor and I am The Rocket’s 2016-17 Sports Editor. This will be my third year writing for the paper and my second year on staff. I’m not quite sure what drew me to the paper in the first place, but joining the paper has undoubtedly been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I find it hard to put into words what exactly I like so much about sports reporting. The whole experience is just awesome and I can’t explain it. From working with my amazing coworkers, to meeting so many different athletes and coaches, to being able to tell these stories that would otherwise go unnoticed, I love it all. I have to give a lot of credit to my sports editor from last year and this year’s EIC Ryan Barlow. He’s the one who encouraged me to apply for a staff position in the first place and as his assistant last year his leadership style and support really gave me the confidence to come up with a lot of new ideas and try some things that the sports section hadn’t before. I know Ryan is going to make an outstanding EIC. Now as I take over the sports section along with my assistant editor, Jordyn Bennett, I’m excited to continue implementing new ideas and evolve the section into something amazing. Jordyn’s a great writer and he’s bringing a lot of new ideas onto the staff. So expect a lot out of the sports section this year, because I believe Jordyn and I are going to have the most comprehensive and complete sports coverage Slippery Rock University has ever seen.
