Entering my freshman year at SRU, I knew I wanted to be involved in the sports section of the Rocket. Luckily, I was given my first opportunity as a contributor within a month, and I haven’t looked back since. I was blessed with opportunity to join the Rocket staff my sophomore year as Assistant Sports Editor, and I am ecstatic to return to the staff as Sports Editor.
As many could guess, I love sports and I love writing. As many fanatics of sports would understand, I love searching for new stories that go beyond just the game. Certain stories that I have already written will always stand out for me. Whether it’s about two twin brothers who came to the same college to play soccer together, or a senior basketball player who serves her country by doing ROTC, it’s fun writing feature articles on different players, because everyone has a unique background and story to share.
To me, there’s nothing better than a college sports atmosphere. Whether it’s Division I, II, or III, there is a buzz from the students that can only be found on a college campus. I think it’s special for college athletes, because they feed off of the energy in a college atmosphere. One of my favorite moments of the 2014-2015 athletic seasons was watching the Rock Women’s Basketball make the post season for the first time in a number of years. I was honored to cover that team, who faced so much adversity, including a coach who was not guaranteed a spot to return for the next season. It’s those type of moments, that make my job so awesome.
