Growing up I would never have guessed that I’d be writing for my college newspaper. I’ve always had an interest in sports however, as my dad is a lifetime Pittsburgh sports fan. When the Pittsburgh Pirates started getting good in 2011 and 2012 I began following a lot of different baseball blogs so I could stay up to date on any and all Pirates news. Not long after I also stumbled upon football and hockey blogs and before I knew it I was checking over ten blogs a day. So when I had a chance to write for the sports section of The Rocket last year I of course jumped on it. While I had never really considered myself much of a writer I was nonetheless excited for the opportunity. Covering cross country and track and field had its challenges, but I am beyond happy with how my first year on the newspaper turned out. I feel that I was able to take my experience from reading so much sports journalism and put it towards my own writing. Now with a whole year of experience under my belt I am ready to take over as the assistant sports editor and continue to contribute to the success of The Rocket.
