Slippery Rock University women’s volleyball hosted California University (Pa.) on Saturday at their home court of Morrow Field House. The Rock swept the Vulcans in three sets, continuing their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schedule.

SRU finished a stretch of home games with three consecutive wins.

The White and Green started the first set off strong with four back-to-back points on two attack errors by Elisa Rugiero and two kills by Victoria Nalbach and Kaitlyn Danszczak.

Cal U caught back up, only one point behind with a service error and two kills, but never found the lead. The Rock took the set 25-14.

Slippery Rock came back for the second set just as strong, starting off with a 5-1 lead. Three kills by Erica Selfridge, Callie Chevalier and Lauren VonderHaar gave SRU the jump.

Selfridge led the game in kills, tallying in 15. VonderHaar led in blocks with five total for the game and 33 solo blocks for the season.

The White and Green closed out the set with another kill by Selfridge, one by Chelsie Wheeler and an attack error by Rugiero, and won 25-17.

Selfridge opened the final set with yet another kill, putting the first point in the set on the board for SRU. The Vulcans took the lead 10-8 after three attack errors and a kill from senior hitter Sophia Johnson.

The Rock quickly recovered with three kills and a service ace. After a kill by Wheeler and an attack error by Cal U’s Allie Droneberger, Selfridge closed out the set with a kill. The White and Green won the final set 25-16.

Slippery Rock will continue the PSAC play when they take on Indiana University (Pa.) on Friday at Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. A win would tie them with Edinboro University at fifth place.
