Currently slotting in at third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West division, the Slippery Rock women’s soccer team will participate in the PSAC tournament next week.
After a 1-0 win against California University (Pa.) on Saturday, The Rock went on to play Edinboro University yesterday, closing out their season with a 4-0 shutout. The win could have given SRU a chance to tie with Indiana University (Pa.) in the standings, but the Crimson Hawks won their game as well.
After finishing up one of their last games in the season with a 3-0 shutout against Seton Hill University, IUP will go onto play Gannon University on Saturday. It is a game that will ultimately not matter for the White and Green’s standing, as they are locked into the three seed.
Gannon holds their fate, and the one seed, in their own hands as the Golden Knights wrap up their regular season schedule in Indiana against the Crimson Hawks.
The Rock has been back and forth all season, having just one winning streak with two consecutive wins from Sept. 25 to Sept. 28, up until this week started. They’ve also managed to get through a full regular season schedule without losing back-to-back games even once.
The Edinboro game could serve as a spring board, giving the White and Green a shot at their first three-game winning streak, should they win in the PSAC Tournament quarterfinals.
SRU will turn to Rock cornerstones Morgan Sarver and Sydney Patrick to show up big in this important stretch of games. The duo has a combined nine goals this season.
Sophia Palermo will look to continue her recent hot stretch, having scored three goals in The Rock’s last two games. With the goal barrage, the sophomore is now tied with Sarver for the team lead in goals scored at five.
Palermo’s 13 points are only second to Patrick’s 18.
The PSAC Tournament begins for The Rock on Nov. 12 as the White and Green fight to reign supreme for the first time since the 2019 team brought home a PSAC Championship.
