Currently slotting in at third in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West division, the Slippery Rock women’s soccer team will participate in the PSAC tournament next week.
After a 1-0 win against California University (Pa.) on Saturday, The Rock will take on Edinboro University today to close out their season. A win will tie SRU with Indiana University (Pa.) at 27 points in the standings, though the Crimson Hawks also play today and Saturday.
With two games left in the season, IUP will need to lose both games for SRU to jump them for sole control of second place in the division. The Crimson Hawks sit just three points below top-seed Gannon. University of Pittsburgh Johnstown sits seven points below The Rock, also with two games left in the season.
Gannon holds their fate, and the one seed, in their own hands as the Golden Knights wrap up their regular season schedule in Indiana against the Crimson Hawks.
Barring a win in The Rock’s last game of the season, they will likely finish with the third-place slot in the division.
The Rock has been back and forth all season, having just one winning streak with two consecutive wins from Sept. 25 to Sept. 28. They’ve also managed to get through a full regular season schedule without losing back-to-back games even once.
The Edinboro game today could serve as a spring board, giving the White and Green a shot at their first three-game win streak of 2024, should they take the finale and the PSAC Tournament quarterfinals.
SRU will turn to Rock cornerstones Morgan Sarver and Sydney Patrick to show up big in this important stretch of games. The duo has a combined nine goals this season.
The PSAC Tournament begins for The Rock on Nov. 12 as the White and Green fight to reign supreme for the first time since the 2019 team brought home a PSAC Championship.
