Slippery Rock University women’s volleyball hosted the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown yesterday at their home court of Morrow Field House. The White and Green swept UPJ in three sets, collecting their first home victory and snapping a four-game losing streak.

The Rock came home this weekend searching for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win after losses to Edinboro University and Gannon University. After three great sets of back-and-forth scoring, UPJ met their match in The Rock as they grabbed all three sets to collect the sweep.

The Rock women dominated the stat sheet, leading UPJ in total points 60 to 45, kills 46-41, aces 4-0, blocks 10-4 and assists 40-38.

Junior outside hitter Callie Chevalier collected 13 kills throughout the game, with senior outside hitter Chelsie Wheeler and senior middle hitter Aslyn Pry each getting 8 kills.

Both freshman Paityn Krause and  junior Jaden Yost helped the squad to this victory with 19 assists. Krause and Yost also picked up two of the four aces the team had.

Junior middle hitter Lauren VonderHaar continued her dominance with 6 more blocks, bringing her up to fifth in the PSAC leaderboard in blocks.

With this victory, The Rock now is just two games under .500, sitting at 9-11 overall and 2-6 in the PSAC. After their loss, UPJ is now 15-6 overall but also under .500 in conference at 3-5.

The standings currently sit with Gannon leading the way at 8-0 in conference and Seton Hill not far behind at 6-1. SRU is sitting at the 7th spot of conference, but with this win they are now only one game behind both UPJ and Edinboro and have a two-game lead on last place California University (Pa.).

The Rock have plenty of PSAC plays to go as they face the second place Seton Hill Griffins on Nov. 1 at their home court Morrow Field house. This continues a three game home stand that will end the following day against Cal U.
