Slippery Rock women’s soccer hosted the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown at yesterday’s game but came up short, snapping a 15-game winning streak at James Egli Field and giving UPJ their third conference win of the year.

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team came into the game hot after a road win last week. The women started slow, allowing three shots in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, none of these shots made it into the net, which helped the defense buckle down. From there, Slippery Rock went on to out-shoot UPJ 8-3 in the remainder of the half.

Sophia Palermo scoring her second goal of the season and Sydney Smith notching the assist gave the team a 1-0 lead going into the second half.

Pitt-Johnstown responded by scoring three unanswered goals, giving them a 3-1 victory and bringing their record to 5-4-2 overall and 3-4-2 in conference play.

The Rock fell to 5-4-3 overall and 5-2-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

UPJ’s Lydia Roman scored her third goal of the year, ultimately tying the game 1-1 in the 46th minute of the game. Shortly after in the 49th minute, Sophia Lamesta also scored her third goal of the year, bringing the score to 2-1. The final goal of the game came from Hailey Neidig, giving her the fourth goal of her season in the 70th minute of the game.

After yesterday’s match, Slippery Rock still holds the second spot in the standings of the PSAC West, putting them in a great spot for the end of the season push for the postseason.

As for UPJ, they move to fourth in the division, passing up Seton Hill and keeping their postseason hopes alive.

The Rock is now preparing for its next game against Indiana University (Pa.) on Saturday, Oct. 19 on their home pitch, James Egli Field, at 1 p.m. The women look to continue their recent success as they have won two of their last three games against the No. 23 Crimson Hawks.
