The Rock travels to Canfield, Ohio for the YSU Alumni Invite this Saturday coming off a tremendously successful meet at the Doug Watts Open.
Edinboro’s Doug Watts XC Course saw the best of SRU cross country on Sept. 7 when both the men’s and women’s cross-country teams placed first.
The men’s team scored 26, finishing significantly better off than second place Daemen University who scored 84. The Rock’s top-five runners in the Men’s 6,000-meter race all finished within the top eight overall.
Troy Hart finished second as the White and Green’s highest-placing runner. Not too far behind, though, were Eli Schreiber and Michael Gauntner, two freshmen who finished fourth and eighth overall respectively. The first-year duo were the two highest-placing freshmen at the meet.
The other two scoring runners for the men’s team were Devon Navaroli in fifth and Michael Novak in seventh.
Not to be overshadowed, the women’s team took individual first and second place in their 5,000-meter race. Anna Igims finished first with Ruthie Hughes less than 23 seconds behind in second place.
The rest of The Rock’s scorers were Jennifer Cichra at sixth, freshman Carrissa Flynn at tenth and Maddie Grillo who placed just outside the top 15 at 16 overall. These finishes put the White and Green at a score of 35.
Flynn was the highest-placing freshman in the women’s race.
As for the YSU Alumni Invite, the women’s team will look to repeat their success running a 5,000-meter distance at MetroParks Farm XC Course while the men will have to adjust their pace for an 8,000-meter course.
