Samantha Gilbert and Madison Murtland both notched two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks at the SPIRE Indoor Games last Saturday.
Gilbert’s 7.68 second 60-meter dash was good for fourth place and her first PSAC mark. The senior earned her other mark in the long jump where she recorded a distance of 5.63m.
Murtland got her PSAC marks by way of a 2:22.25 800-meter dash and a 5:13.60 mile run. The distance specialist is a one-time All-PSAC honoree already and has the opportunity to add to her resume with her already earned qualification.
Kendall Grossman and Sarah Corrie added NCAA provisional marks to The Rock’s record at the meet.
Grossman’s 3.75m pole vault placed her fourth at the event. Already a one-time PSAC Champion, the senior will look to become a multiple-time champion next week.
Corrie logged hers with a 13.98m shot put which was good for fifth place. The graduate student is a two-time PSAC Champion and will join Grossman in an attempt to add to her already sparkling trophy case.
Shot put was one of The Rock’s most successful events. They tallied four PSAC auto marks and all four were top-15 finishes. The athletes achieving the marks were Corrie, Becca Martin, Olivia Heckman and Savannah Schneck.
Pole vault was another area of success, with three top-15 finishers and three PSAC auto marks. After Grossman, Allie Taylor placed ninth and Hanna Zeiler placed 15th. Taylor reached 3.45m and Zeiler reached 3.30m.
The long jump was a similar story. Gilbert led the way but was followed closely by Cassidy Davis and Aleks Brozeski’s jumps, both of which were at least 5.30m Davis 11th and Brozeski landed at 16th.
The SPIRE Indoor Games were The White and Green’s last event prior to the PSAC Championships. Next Sunday, all of The Rock’s qualifiers will converge with all other qualifiers to compete.
The PSAC Championships will place Sunday and Monday at Lehigh University.
