The Rock tennis team has been out to prove that last year was no fluke and that they have made the improvements that they needed for this season. They took another step towards doing just that.
After starting the season 0-2, The Rock has been able to grab two wins in their past two matches. This time, they made the trip to Ashland University and walked away with a 6-1 win over the Eagles.
The first match that day took place and Ashland snagged one win as their top pair, Ana Penteado and Constanza Arancibia, took a 6-1 win over Teddi Isherwood and Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez. But The Rock’s other two pairs were able to take the other two doubles matches from the Eagles to take the doubles points.
Ashland was not able to stop Slippery Rock in singles either. From the first match, they took control.
Slippery Rock only lost one match, as Isherwood dropped her match. They were able to sweep the Eagles in singles, but Nuria Martin Lopez won her match with a clean 6-0, 6-0 win.
But now as they get into the thick of things, it is going to more important than ever to fix any mistakes early on. They do not play again until they make their spring break trip, but their non-conference matchups are against teams that they feel are at their level. So two wins in a row will play a big part in their confidence over the next few weeks.
On their spring break trip, they will play matches against four different teams. Two will be from Texas and the other two will be from Florida. Head Coach Matt Meredith had said earlier on that it will be important to have these matchups.
Those matches will start on March 12.
