Off the heels of a big win against Indiana (Pa.), The Rock women’s soccer team was able to win their second straight against California University of Pennsylvania, a team that has struggled so far this season. It didn’t take long for Slippery Rock to find mismatches against The Vulcans, and they were able to execute because of that.

Eight minutes into action, The Rock’s Jordyn Minda was able to bury the ball in the back of the net off of a cross pass from Julia Mascaro’s. Mascaro was credited with the assist on the goal that gave Slippery Rock a 1-0 lead.

California (Pa.) wasn’t able to register a shot in the first half, which made goalkeeper Emma Yoder’s job easy. In the first half alone, The Green and White had 14 shots and nine corner kicks.

The Rock struck again nine minutes later when Georgia Nagucki beat Vulcan goalkeeper Emily Ouimet for their second goal of the game. The goal gave Slippery Rock a 2-0 lead and they didn’t let up.

Rachel Edge led The Rock with nine shots and three of her shots were on goal. California (Pa.) was able to stop Edge from scoring, but that opened up room for other players to get shots off and for Nagucki to get on the board not once, but twice.

The second half was much of the same story. The Rock had even more shots in the second period of play with a total of 18. In the 63rd minute, Nagucki was able to get another goal on the board. This time she scored on a free kick and as a result, the Vulcans swapped out goal keepers.

Katie Ramaley relieved Ouimet of her duties and took over, but it was much too late. The Rock saw victory and Yoder only faced one shot on goal, which didn’t come until 70 minutes into the game.

Yoder has now put up two shut outs in a row. Now Slippery Rock will face Edinboro University, the team that gave them the most trouble in the 2019 season. This will be a home game on Wednesday. The last time these teams played on James Egli field, Slippery Rock won 3-2 in comeback fashion to clinch the PSAC west. A few weeks after that game, The Rock pulled out a 2-1 victory. This Wednesday will see a rivalry renewed as The Rock looks to continue to have success in PSAC play.
