Slippery Rock played their final road game of the season at Cal U on Wednesday, and
walked away with another conference win.
The Rock (13-3-0, PSAC 12-2-0) defeated the Vulcans (3-10-1, PSAC 2-10-1) by a score of 4-0. The Rock has outscored Cal U 8-0 on the season, with Rachel Edge accounting for half of those goals this season.
The scoring was started in the 32nd minute by Sofia Harrison, who scored her fifth goal
of the season. The Vulcans then held the Rock scoreless until the 67th, when Edge scored her 12th goal of the season on an unassisted goal. Edge scored again two minutes later for her 13th goal of the season with an assist from Kayla Swope.
Edge didn’t stop there as she would go on to score her third goal, and record her first career hat trick in college. Her third goal came in the 86th minute on an assist from Jordyn Minda.
The Rock led the game with 24 shots and ten on goal, while the Vulcans only had one
shot and that shot was on target. The Rock took 55 shots against Cal U in just two games this season, and limited the Vulcans to nine shots in two games. The Rock also had 21 shots on target, while they held the Vulcans to just six shots on goal this season.
In the game, the Rock had seven corners and held Cal U to none. Cal U led the matchup with seven fouls while The Rock committed five.
Edge led the game with six shots and had four of those on goal. Harrison and Minda
each had three shots each and one on goal. Shannon McIntyre and Swope also each had two shots on goal. The only shot that was taken by the Vulcans came from Lindsie Galbreath. The Rock had shots taken from ten different players.
The Rock now leads the all-time series 28-10-2, including a 15-4-2 away record in the
series. The Rock has now had shutouts against the Vulcans in the past four games and have outscored them 14-0 in those four games.
The Rock returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Edinboro in a potential match where SRU can lock up the PSAC West.
