The women’s field hockey team of Slippery Rock University lost on its Senior Day to the Bloomsburg University Huskies on Sunday in a conference game by the score of three to one. Senior midfielder Hannah Downing, senior midfielder Sam Geroski, senior defender Liz Wolfe, senior forward Rachel Ivins, senior midfielder Hannah Simone, and senior defender Tara Maloney are SRU’s 2018 seniors.
The Rock took an early lead in the game as sophomore forward Courtney Page scored a goal a little more than one minute into the game. The goal was her third of the season.
Bloomsburg’s freshman forward Foto Tsioles tied things up, however, with less than a minute and a half left in the first half. The goal was her second of the season. Senior forward Morgan McAllister was credited with the assist on Tsioles’s goal. The game went into the half knotted up at one.
That tie was broken in the second half when more than eight minutes into it junior forward Willow Perkins scored for Bloomsburg making the score two to one. Perkins would score once more for the Huskies a little more than three minutes after her last goal. She finished the game with two goals and now has three goals for the season. Perkins’s goals were the final goals of the game as the final 23 and a half minutes remained a stalemate.
The box score showed the game as being very close. Bloomsburg outshot SRU with ten shots recorded to SRU’s seven shots recorded. Of the ten shots by the Huskies, four were shots on goal. Of The Rock’s seven shots, five were shots on goal.
Sophomore goaltender Maddie Murphy for the Green and White remained in net for nearly 47 minutes of the game prior to freshman goaltender Hannah Nurse entering the contest in net. Murphy allowed the three Bloomsburg goals while making one save. Nurse gave up no goals and made no saves in close to 23 minutes of play.
Sophomore goaltender Dana Shepley remained in net for the Bloomsburg Huskies throughout the entire game. She made four saves and allowed one goal.
Sophomore forward Kayla Ulrich and Hannah Downing recorded two shots apiece for The Rock. Courtney Page, Rachel Ivins, and sophomore midfielder Abby McKay recorded the other shots in the contest for Slippery Rock. Ulrich now has 37 shots this season which leads the team. The Rock has a total of 137 shots recorded as a team this year.
Bloomsburg had five players record two shots each. Sophomore forward Emily Alker was the only one of the five aside from Perkins and Tsioles to have a shot on goal.
Bloomsburg’s overall record improves to ten wins and six losses with a four-win, five-loss record in PSAC play.
With the loss, SRU’s overall record drops to six wins and 11 losses with a PSAC record of one win and eight losses. SRU has now lost three in a row.
Slippery Rock University’s final game of the season will take place Friday against the no. 9 Millersville University Marauders. Nationally ranked Millersville has a 12-win, five-loss overall record, and six-win, three-loss PSAC record. They have won five in a row.
