Rock men’s soccer was unable to score a goal in their 1-0 season opener against non-conference opponent Tiffan University (1-0) on Thursday.

The lone Tiffin goal came with just seven seconds remaining remaining in the first half.  SRU was only able to manage two shots on goal during the game from senior midfielder George Oakley, and senior defender Kenton Keeslar.

Tiffin out shot the Green and White with 20 attempts to The Rock’s eight, while six of Tiffins shots made it on goal, including their late first-half goal.

In goal for The Rock was junior goal keeper Matt Hunsberger, who played all 90 minutes in the game as he recorded his first loss of the season.  The starting lineup for The Rock included four freshmen such as defender/midfielder Dan Schearer, midfielder/ forward Omar Bangura, defender Mohsen Kanani, and forward Alexander Vilchek.

With the win, Tiffin breaks the tie in the all-time series between the two programs, as the only two other matchups between The Rock and Tiffin resulted in ties.  The Rock starts their season with a 0-1 record, but look to change that in their next match on Saturday at home against Lake Erie College (1-0) starting at 7:00 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
