The Slippery Rock University field hockey team won a neutral-site game against Queens University in Lexington, Kentucky on Sunday.
Two of the Green and White’s three goals were scored by freshmen, one of which was a continuation of a legacy for Slippery Rock.
Freshman midfielder Abby McKay scored the first goal for The Rock at the 29-minute mark. Abby is the younger sister of SRU field Hockey legacy Megan Mckay, who holds numerous school records.
The Rock’s next goal came after halftime, off of the stick of the other freshman scorer, defender Brittany Morgan. This was Morgan’s first career goal.
Slippery Rock’s other goal came from junior midfielder Sam Geroski. Seven goals through two games is the fourth-most for any team in program history.
Junior defender Liz Wolfe assisted on Geroski’s goal, making her one of four different Rock players with an assist so far this year.
Slippery Rock put consistent pressure on Queens throughout the afternoon, with another freshman, forward Kayla Ulrich putting seven shots on goal, adding to Mckay and Geroski’s three. A pair of freshmen forwards led some offensive charges, with Alison Martin also putting three shots on goal, and Courtney page adding five.
On the defensive side, two goalies split even time in the goal. Senior Nicole Bream recorded four saves and allowed no goals, while freshman Maddie Murphy allowed one goal, and recorded three saves.
Slippery Rock returns to their home field on Wednesday, September 6th, against Mansfield at 4 p.m.
