Former Millersville University assistant men’s soccer coach, Steve Small, has been named the new head coach of the Slippery Rock men’s soccer team, SRU athletic director Paul Lueken announced Wednesday.

Small, a 2006 DeSales University graduate, has been on the Millersville coaching staff since 2007 and has been a part of the Marauders’ recent rise to success. While at Millersville, Small helped the team qualify for eight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournaments, one conference title and five NCAA Tournament berths.

Small’s time at Millersville means he is familiar with the competition in the PSAC.

Small is taking over for former Rock head coach Andy Hoggarth, who resigned from the position to take another head coaching job.

At Slippery Rock, Smalls will be taking over one of the most successful men’s soccer programs in the conference. SRU has won two of the last three PSAC Tournaments, including last year. The team is returning 22 players from last year’s championship team as well.
