The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team completely overwhelmed the Seton Hill Griffins in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup Tuesday at the Slippery Rock University Tennis Courts. The final score was 9-0. The win put the team at 10-8 for the season and 1-2 in PSAC play. Seton Hill’s record falls below .500 (7-8) for the season and 1-3 in the PSAC.
Freshman Amanda Bruscemi and sophomore Nina Barbano rolled through the first doubles match-up defeating Madison DeBone and Paula Carajalino with a score of 8-5. Junior Tiffany Kollah and sophomore Carla Corrochano Moracho achieved their first team victory against Isidora Knezevic and Sara Ruiz. The final score was 8-6. Rounding out doubles was an 8-2 victory by juniors Stephanie Fortier and Kylee Woodman over Alisha Torretti and Mary Baich.
The women carried the momentum with them in singles play with two 6-2, 6-0 victories by Stephanie Fortier and Allie Welch over Torretti and Baich at fifth and sixth singles.
Corrochano took the upper hand against Knezevic in the first flight with an even set of scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Nina Barbano continued her energetic season with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Ruiz at no. 2 singles. The win was the sophomore’s team-leading 14th win and fourth consecutive victory.
In the third flight, Tiffany Kollah handed a defeat to DeBone with scores of 6-4, 7-5. To end the evening, Amanda Bruscemi was able to get past Carajalino with final scores of 6-1, 5-7, 10-4.
The Rock hopes to continue their winning ways with another home match against Grove City College in a non-conference matchup. The match is set for this Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Slippery Rock University Tennis Courts.
