Rock men’s soccer was able to secure playoff birth in the PSAC Tournament after defeating East Stroudsburg University 2-1 on Friday.
Senior midfielder Brandon Chiu scored his first goal of the season and gave the Rock an early 1-0 lead just two minutes into the competition. The Rock held a 1-0 lead after halftime, but East Stroudsburg’s Otavio Caproni was able to tie the game at one goal apiece just over a minute into the second half. The Green and White recovered from the game tying goal quickly, and senior forward Stephen Donnelly scored the game winning goal in the 46th minute. The goal was Donnelly’s 10th on the year.
The Rock held a 21-16 advantage over the Warriors in overall shot attempts, despite East Stroudsburg leading shots on goal 10-6.
Donnelly led SRU with seven shots, followed by junior forward Peter Boylan with three. Junior forward Mike Ilodigwe and senior forward Anthony Jack each had two shots, while several other Rock players contributed one shot apiece, including senior forward Dom Francis and Chiu.
Sophomore goalkeeper Steven Rerick played the entire 90 minutes for the Rock. Rerick faced 10 shots on goal, saving nine of them. Rerick’s nine saves are a career high in a single game.
The Rock heads to West Chester on Saturday, Nov. 1, where they will end their regular season. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m.
