Creative Ways To Personalize Your Denim Jacket

Almost everyone has a denim jacket they love, and if they don’t, they should reconsider. One of the most fun ways to wear it is by customizing it to your personality and interests. Then no two jackets will ever be the same.

If you’re interested in working on yours in your free time, here are some creative ways to personalize your denim jacket.

Patchwork

The 1970s called, and they want their patches back—just kidding. Patchwork and denim go together like peanut butter and jelly. If you enjoy traveling, grab a patch in each location you visit and then add it to your jacket as a wearable piece of memory.

It’s okay if you aren’t a huge traveler; grab patches as you see ones that speak to your personality. The placement of the patches is solely up to you, but a few ideas are collage work on the back or the shoulders.

Pins

Much like patches, pins are collectible and can say a lot about your interests without your saying a word. The fact that they’re small enough to group in a cluster means you can collect as many as you want, and they’ll likely all fit.

It’s best to consider placing your pins on the front of your jacket since they’re a little more sensitive to movement. Consider putting them places like the lapel and front pockets.

Embellishments

If you’re not into making a bold statement with a lot of color and character but are interested in sprucing up your jacket, consider embellishments like studs, diamonds, and small metal detailing. This is also an excellent way to showcase personality in a more sophisticated way.

Distressing

Distressed denim is rarely out of style. We see it often in jeans at the knees or the hemline. But one of the most creative ways to personalize your denim jacket is through distressing and fraying different areas. It’s almost a sure bet that nobody will have the same jacket as you, thanks to your own distressing techniques.

A few supplies you need to make this happen are scissors, tweezers, and a coarse nail file. All you’ll do is cut against the grain of the denim in strips, then use the tweezers to pull strands of denim out of the cut sections. The nail file can help you break the denim loose to pull bigger strands out.

There are many ways to bring your personality to a piece of denim. And the best part is that a jacket can last you as long as you desire. Denim is timeless, so feel free to let the creative juices flow.
