If you go to SRU or live in or around Slippery Rock, you have probably heard of Rooster’s Coffee Bar. For those of you who do not know, Rooster’s is a locally-owned coffee bar on Main Street specializing in delicious coffee-based drinks and in-house baked pastries.
But, what if you dislike coffee? Here are the top five non-coffee drinks at Rooster’s (as a non-coffee drinker).
A classic fan favorite, ranking at number one is the Redbull infusion. This Redbull-based drink can be “infused” with a wide variety of fruity syrups to enhance the flavor. Some of my personal favorites are pomegranate, blood orange, apple and pineapple. It also pairs great with their range of afternoon soups for a midday pick-me-up.
Coming in at a close second is the seasonally delicious blackberry and cream refresher. This drink is what I would describe as a parody of an Italian cream soda: light, refreshing and with the perfect fruit kick. The blackberry flavor is a great seasonal option for anyone sick of the traditional fall flavors like pumpkin or apple. This pairs great with their bagels and cream cheese.
The blood orange and black tea ranks at a solid third place. This iced black tea-based drink brings in a fruity flavor to a normally earthy-toned classic. Blood orange is a really unique flavor, and one that I do not see frequently, but it has quickly become one of my favorites on the menu. The sweetness is quite mild, but you can add an extra shot of syrup for just under a dollar if you prefer. This sweeter drink pairs perfectly with their rotating soups and bread options. If you do not opt for the sweeter drink, it pairs great with both their apple cider cake and raspberry scone.
A beloved fall and winter drink is also on the menu at Rooster’s. Ranking at fourth place, their hot chocolate can be as plain or extravagant as you want it to be. With this drink, there are endless possibilities of syrups, add-ons, and it is the only drink on this list with different milk options. Some of these options include traditional coffee flavor shots such as caramel, vanilla and hazelnut, or even seasonal flavor shots such as peppermint, mocha, pumpkin or cinnamon. On top of this, you can add whipped cream to your drink or opt for a dairy-free milk alternative. This childhood classic pairs perfectly with their butter croissants or is perfect on its own when you want to feel like a kid at heart.
Ranking finally at number five is the elderflower green tea. This green iced tea is perfect for those warmer fall days where you want to cool off a bit between classes or while studying. The subtle elderflower notes brighten the flavor as they are not overpowering and not too sweet. This drink pairs perfectly with their blueberry muffins or with their breakfast burritos if you want a bigger meal.
These are my top five non-coffee based drinks at Rooster’s. If any of them pique your interest, stop down on Main Street and pay them a visit!
