Slippery Rock University (SRU) reported Saturday morning that the gunman involved in a shooting Saturday along Smith Road in West Liberty Township is in custody.

In an email sent to community stakeholders around 1:50 p.m., the university said the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) informed them of the arrest. A safety alert notification was sent out at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

The suspect has not been identified at this time, but a description of the gunman, a white male who is five feet eight inches tall and 230 pounds, was included in the first email from SRU.

The PSP has not released a statement on the shooting. Numerous PSP vehicles and a van from the PSP Forensic Unit were found at the scene. Smith Road is located four miles south of SRU.
