David Wilmes, chief student affairs officer, stated that Shawn Moon, a recent SRU student, from Mercer died by apparent suicide.

“Shawn was a good friend of many and will be sorely missed,” Wilmes said in an email sent to university stakeholders at 4:35 p.m on Saturday. “There are no words that can truly console Shawn’s loved ones at a moment like this. His loss is simply unfathomable. If you find yourself struggling with Shawn’s passing or having thoughts of suicide, please reach out for help. We care deeply about you and want to help you through whatever troubles you face.”
