The public finally found out about some sort of music release from Playboi Carti called “Narcissist” after he released a screenshot of a text on Twitter on Sept. 15. He sent it to a group of people that read “FORGET ABOUT SAMPLE CLEARANCES. DROP NARCISSIST.”
After a few weeks of speculation, the air is finally cleared and now all people have left to do is wait.
Part of this speculation was how “Narcissist” was going to be Playboi Carti’s own clothing line. Technically, the guess was not wrong, because on Monday, Matthew Williams, executive producer of Playboi Carti’s most recent album “Whole Lotta Red,” took to his Instagram story to post two pictures, one that tagged Playboi Carti, of some form of garment that had the word “Narcissist” embroidered on it.
People have seen the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, a frequent collaborator of Playboi Carti, and Ken Carson, an up-incoming rapper who is a part of Playboi Carti’s label, or collective, Opium in merchandise from the “Narcissist” drop.
Playboi Carti fans were trying to dig up any information on the topic and stumbled upon his official website, where they were pleasantly surprised that there was merchandise for sale. Unfortunately for the people that went ahead and bought anything on the website, Playboi Carti said on Twitter that “THE WEBSITE IS HACKED THE REF[erence] FOLDER WAS POSTED LIVE. NEVER APPROVED ANY CLOTHING/ETC.”
Shortly after, fans went back on the website and were even more surprised to see that one of the items didn’t even spell the word “Narcissist” correctly on the biker long sleeve shirt. The fans had been scammed out of their hard earn cash.

But the public found the situation to be even more fishy when they saw people wearing the merchandise on the site that was shut down the other day. Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert were seen walking together, and they were both wearing the bomber jacket that was up for sale. Playboi Carti was also wearing the motorcycle helmet. The fans were left to wonder, was the website a scam, or was it a publicity stunt to attract more attention to the album?
Originally, the only thing that fans knew about “Narcissist” was that it was the title of Playboi Carti’s tour. The tour will start on October 14 in Nashville, TN. But now they know that there will be a(n) album/EP/project of some sort to accompany the tour. So, the conclusion that the public has come to is that the album must be released before that date.
With Playboi Carti, you never know if he will release it before the tour starts because of how cryptic he is with communicating with his fans. For now, Playboi Carti’s fans will be staying up every Friday night leading up to the tour hoping that the music is released.
