Slippery Rock women’s soccer stayed above .500 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Division play with a tie against Seton Hill University last Saturday.

The Rock were mere minutes away from back-to-back shutouts to open their conference schedule before the Griffins’ Mikayla Moyer found the back of the net.

SRU’s defense put on a clinic in the first half. Not only did the White and Green allow no goals, but SHU also tallied one shot across the first 45 minutes. In that span The Rock had 17 shots.

Despite the massive shot differential, Seton Hill also threw a first half shutout.

The Rock scored after a corner kick bounced off multiple players into the middle of the SHU net during the 69th minute.  Seton Hill goalie Sydney Caldwell tallied nine saves across her first nine attempts. The ricochet provided enough movement to get the ball past her despite saving every shot on goal in both halves.

The goal was attributed to the team.

White and Green goalie Leah Allman made three saves all coming in the second half.

Moyer’s game tying goal, the lone shot to make it past Allman, came via a penalty kick early into the 88th minute.

The Rock accrued 27 total shots with 12 on goal. SHU had six shots with four on goal. SRU’s Libby Zacharyasz matched Seton Hill’s shot total to lead the field while landing one on goal.

The defender was named week two’s PSAC Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, in part due to her six shots on Saturday. Across the week she led her squad with nine shots, scored a goal and played part in SRU’s shutout against Pitt-Johnstown on Sept. 11.

Morgan Sarver and Maddie DeLucio followed closely behind Zacharyasz with four shots apiece. DeLucio had two on goal and Sarver landed on.

Four other Rock athletes tallied multiple shots. Six different Seton Hill players registered a shot and four of the six had one shot on goal.

The tie lands the White and Green at 1-0-1 in PSAC-West play and 1-1-2 overall. SHU moved to 0-0-1 in in the conference and 2-0-2 overall.

Rock women’s soccer returns to the field this Saturday at Indiana University (Pa.). IUP is 1-0 in the conference.
