The Rock women’s soccer logged their fourth straight victory over the University of Pitt-Johnstown with a 3-0 victory at Richland High School of Johnstown, Pa. earlier today.

Maddie DeLucio wasted no time securing the White and Green’s lead. After a pair of shots by Morgan Sarver, DeLucio found the right side of the net on a header from a corner kick just under four minutes into the game.

Sarver soon got her chance though, receiving an Ava Balazentis pass between two defenders and shooting around a sliding goalie to find the back of the net in the 29th minute.

Both teams scattered shots for a while until Libby Zacharyasz sunk the final goal at the 87-minute mark to finish off The Rock’s comfortable victory.

The junior’s shot was a close-distance tap-in just moments after another corner kick. Sydney Patrick tallied her second assist on the goal to lead the field for the day.

Despite the brief scoring drought, The Rock was able to maintain more consistent pressure, finishing with a 17-10 shot advantage.

Sarver stood alone with four shots, the most of any player, but tied with DeLucio and UPJ’s Lydia Roman with two shots on goal.

The day served as a bit of déjà vu for Sarver and DeLucio who both scored a goal in SRU’s game against UPJ last October, another three-score victory for The Rock. Sarver also had two shots on goal out of four total shots in that contest.

SRU’s Leah Allman logged five saves against the Mountain Cat’s five shots on goal during her 90 minutes in the net.

The Rock had seven of their 17 shots on goal.

They moved to 1-1-1 overall and 1-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West division play with the win. UPJ dropped to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in PSAC play.

Slippery Rock will meet Pitt-Johnstown again at home on October 16 looking to extend their matchup win streak to five.

The White and Green’s first conference home game is coming up this Saturday at 2 p.m. against Seton Hill University at James Egli Field.
